Clothing Suggestions
- The preferred clothing for any portrait is solid, darker colors
- Please refrain from wearing short sleeves, stripes, loud patterns, plaids or polka dots
- Avoid clothing that splits the body in half – dark base and light top
- Dark clothing looks better on dark backgrounds. Light clothing looks best on light backgrounds
- Medium to dark colors work best on larger people. Lighter clothing works better on smaller people
- Red is a very strong fabric color for portraiture
- Pink is very close to many skin tones
- Yellow is very vibrant and outstanding
- Wear dark socks whether casual or formal.
- Please ensure that the clothing of all people in the portrait complements each other. In other words, have everyone wear the same color tone. (i.e., dark pink can never be as dark as navy blue, these are not the same color tones). Everyone should wear pants or shorts, but do not mix.
- To add weight, try loose fitting/lighter clothing – to lose weight try tighter fitting/darker clothing
- A “V” neckline will elongate the face line – a round neckline will round the face
- Females should avoid new or novelty hairstyles
- Females should apply makeup as though for evening wear. Please avoid blue or green eye shadow
- Lenses in glasses reflect light and distort the sides of the face. If possible ask your optometrist to loan you empty frames for your portrait or remove the lenses from your existing pair. Do not have glasses with Photo-grey lenses as they will be black.
- No amount of retouching or photographic experience can make up for lack of sleep. Please be well rested.
